The Grind Cafe – Trenton, Ontario
The Grind Cafe is a bit of a surprise. When you think of Trenton, Ontario, you might not think delicious coffee with non-dairy options.
At least, that’s what I thought. Walking through the town on a bitterly cold, snow covered day with my parents, we came across The Grind Cafe and decided to give it a try. It was COLD and we needed heat STAT. (Picture of my Daddio for emphasis on that chilly weather. Brr!)
“I can always have a black Americano,” I thought, as this is my backup coffee of choice. When you’re in smaller towns, especially near rural Ontario, having a non-dairy milk alternative is pretty hit or miss.
The cafe itself is unassuming, located on a main street beside the large parking lot where they hold a weekly farmer’s market. It’s tastefully decorated with some quirky coffee signs, comfortable seats, and a display unit full of delicious looking sweets.
I tentatively asked if they had soy milk and was a bit shocked to discover that they did! What came out was a truly delicious soy latte.
The staff were super friendly and knowledgeable enough about coffee. My family enjoyed their drinks as well!
There were a few veggie items on the menu, specifically bagels, the soup, and a veggie wrap that could easily be veganised. The two staff members that were on that cold December day were quite happy to chat about the menu.
All in all, The Grind, Trenton was super cute with lovely signs, tasteful decor, and truly yummy coffee. I would definitely go back for a quick warm up. I’d also love to eat some of the food next time!
