Why You Should Start a Business Podcast

Starting a business podcast is a great way to promote and grow your business.

A Business podcast really does compliment your business. Your current audience will learn more about what your business is, who you are, and how, together, you can help them achieve more.

But your podcast will also attract a new audience to you. There are people out there who have never heard of you, but they do digest their content through podcasts, and that’s a whole new world for you to grow in.

I’ve had so many business podcast recommendations that have led me to discover incredible new people in business. Honestly, I had never heard of the likes of Rachel Pedersen, Pat Flynn, Amy Porterfield, Jenna Kutcher, or Rachel Hollis before I listened to their podcasts.

Podcasts that were full of some pretty solid business, and life, advice.

You might be thinking: but why would I give all that information away for free? I don’t want to just give my knowledge out there. I should be paid for my services!

Well, yeah, you should definitely be paid for your services. But think of a business podcast as your freebie or your lead magnet. Think of the other information you give away for free. Your blog posts, newsletters, worksheets… whatever it is.

If you’re giving all that amazing information away for FREE, what are your paid services like?

You want your audience to think that you’re saving the best stuff for behind the paywall. Which you are!

There’s one thing listening to free advice given to the masses. It’s a totally different mindset when you put money in the equation.

People can take your advice, learn to build their business (or whatever type of business podcast you’re making), and from there, it’s totally up to them to implement what you’re saying.

But to actually work with you? Learn from you? Have you push them even further?

That’s priceless.

And that’s what you want to convey in your business podcast.

Your Business Isn’t About Business

Believe it or not, you don’t have to talk about business to have a business podcast. You just need to talk about your business.

If you have business selling business services to your audience, then you’ve got your subject right there.

But if your business is about yoga, wellness, marketing, relationship coaching, life coaching, food, writing… or literally anything else, you can create a podcast to talk about the topics that come up in your line of work.

Essentially, your business podcast is an extension of your business. So whatever it is you do, if you want to reach your audience in another way, a podcast is a brilliant method to do that.

In some ways, your podcast is a much more relaxed way to deliver your content to your audience.

Think about it this way, when you’re talking to your friends or peers about what you do, you probably get animated, maybe a bit silly, and express yourself much differently than when you’re writing or posting on social media.

The same way you would get when you’re doing a Facebook Live or Instagram story.

A podcast is kind of like that, except you have the added option to edit it and make sure you sound 100% perfect. Or maybe, like, 90% perfect. It’s your personality and quirks that will be the difference between a successful business podcast and one that doesn’t quite take off.

Business Podcasts I LOVE

Akimbo by Seth Godin

I just love Seth’s unique and early look at marketing. And this podcast is not directly about marketing tactics, but about how different cultures exist and how we can impact them. Definitely worth a listen!

Entrepreneurs on Fire by John Lee Dumas

I know so many entrepreneurs who have a dream of being on JLD’s podcast and for good reason. When I was first starting Thankful Cow Solutions, I’d listen to this short podcast on my way to and from work (about a 25-minute drive) and felt so inspired by all the incredible people doing amazing things for their work! Maybe they’ll inspire you, too?

Goal Digger Podcast by Jenna Kutcher

Redefine what success means to you with Jenna and guests. Each episode is on a different topic that’s going to open your view to what else is out there in the world.

Your Sacred Craft by Steph Lagana

Your Sacred Craft is an absolutely magical experience. Steph Lagana is a business coach who uses spirituality as a tool to help you succeed and this podcast is no different. Her relaxing, encouraging voice is just an added bonus. This is probably my favourite business podcast of them all!

Rise Together with Rachel and Dave Hollis

When I was looking for new podcasts to listen to a couple years ago, so many people recommended this one, and Rachel’s solo show, Rise. And I could definitely see why. Really insightful, funny, and educational. Would recommend!

Smart Passive Income by Pat Flynn

This is one of the first business podcasts that I listened to and I loved it. These episodes are full of information about the mannny different ways you can create a passive income stream.

The Social Bee Podcast

Hosted by Louise Brogan, this interview podcast talks to women around the world about how they’re using social media to market their business. Always insightful.

Women in Business by Dr Cortney Baker

Dr Cortney does episodes both solo, to talk about how you can start your service-based business, and interviews with successful women who have built their businesses from the ground up. She’s always hilarious. This podcast is genuinely awesome.

Are you thinking of starting a business podcast?

That’s amazing if you are! If you have something to say, I think it’s one of the best mediums out there to market your business.
