4 Reasons Why Meal Prepping Boosts Productivity!

It’s possible to boost productivity by meal prepping – crazy, right? There seems to be a weird vibe around the concept of meal prepping. So many people think it’s just for people who are either A) trying to lose weight or B) hardcore gym junkies. When you’re working from home, it’s easy to think you have all the time in the world to cook creative, healthy, and tasty food for three meals a day. But when it comes down to it, you find yourself sticking the premade chips in the oven or heading for a simple sandwich day after day. Meal prepping can save you a lot of time and hassle in your week, plus it helps to boost productivity levels. Wouldn’t it be nice to break for lunch and know you’ve got your meal ready and waiting for you? And perhaps most importantly, when you’ve prepped and are eating the right foods, you can naturally boost your brain and productivity levels. Bonus! It’s just EASIER

How many times have you looked at the clock to see it’s well after your normal eating time and your stomach is absolutely GROWLING. It’s more common than you think! Entrepreneurs are actually notorious for forgetting to eat, which can have detrimental effects. Regular food intake – and I’m not talking about a steady stream of caffeine! – is so important for brain function. You know when you hit that 11 o’clock slump? Your body starts to get hungry and you need some fuel! Same with the mid-afternoon slump. When you have your meals prepped, ready and waiting in the fridge, you can easily grab the sustenance you need – when you need it. There’s no humming and hawing over what to have, no wasted time in the kitchen cooking something healthy, and no reaching for a bag of crisps to “tide you over” til you can be bothered to make something.

Sets you up for a successful week

With meal prepping, you’re setting yourself up for a successful week – of both food tracking and business. When you’re fuelling your body with healthy food, you’re fuelling your mind with all sorts of “go” energy. When you’re giving your body the right fuel – think Omega 3 fatty acids, caffeine (but not too much, you don’t want to get the jitters!), antioxidants, and anti-inflammatory foods – you’re giving your brain the best chance possible to perform at its peak. Peak brain performance means optimal work output. You’ll be firing on all cylinders, as they say, and when you’re eating the right foods, without the risk of sugar crashes or huge energy slumps. Plus, when you’re hungry, it’s hard to focus.

Helps with portion control

Meal prepping doesn’t have to be just for those people tracking their food! However, it does help with portion control. There’s nothing worse than overeating, even if it’s healthy food, and then feeling full, bloated, and good for nothing but a nap. When you’ve already got your meal prepared, you don’t have to worry about over or under eating. Your portion size is what you’ve already given yourself and if you feel you need something extra, have an apple, some nuts, or other small bit of fruit to fill the hunger hole.

Perfect for food tracking apps

When you’re tracking your food intake, using an online app like MyFitnessPal or Chronometer (not affiliated in any way, I just love these two apps and think they’re great to keep you on track with food and macros!), it’s so much easier to log. Logging your food can be a total chore, but when you’re meal prepping, you can create meals and simply log the meal on the day you’re eating it. Saves time, lets you know how many additional calories or macros you can have on that day, and helps you plan your snacks. Plus, knowing what your micronutrients are (iron, omega 3, and magnesium are top for brain boosting!) can help indicate where you need to make changes or additions to your meals. It could be as easy as a sprinkle of pumpkin seeds on your morning porridge, or it could be a bit more, such as including two cups of spinach in your day. But you don’t know if you don’t track!
